Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan movie looks like it went on a wrong mission. The wild ride of the Parekh family failed to live up to the expectations.

Khichdi 2 Movie Review: Supriya Pathak is the only saviour in a not so witty film

Director: Aatish Kapadia Cast: Supriya Pathak, Rajeev Mehta, Anang Desai, Vandana Pathak, Jamnadas Majethia, Kirti Kulhari, Farah Khan Kunder, Anant Vidhaat, Pratik Gandhi, Paresh Ganatra, Kiku Sharda  Language: Hindi  For those who lack fun in their lives, Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan can bring a little laughter, but for most it is not even worth a watch. There is absolutely no wit in Khichdi 2.  For watching this kind of film probably you need to keep your mind locked up in the cupboard. I didn’t have much expectations from this movie, but on a gloomy day I thought it wasn’t that bad an idea to watch a so-called ‘comedy’ all by myself. But sadly, it didn’t help at all. I am sure this kind of a film has an audience, but they were sadly missing today from the hall. So, if the makers thought that the audiences were eagerly waiting to welcome the Parekh family back to the theaters, then I guess there was some miscalculation. Being one of those who hates to run down a film, I tried finding some positives about it. The only being, the performance and expressions of Supriya Pathak throughout the movie and to some extent the look of the film and the colourful cinematography.

Filmmaker Aatash Kpadia in his mission to craft another tale of craziness, ends up trying to tickle us to laugh. The story of Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan goes this way, Rajeev Mehta transforms into an emperor with a beard, moustache and royal clothes. The family is out on a mission to save Paanthukistan from the clutches of a cruel emperor and in this process they are up to their regular comic behaviours which are mostly forced. But I am happy that in such grim times, at least some filmmakers felt the need to make a comedy, but I never thought that the film would turn out to be so mindless. As I mentioned earlier, the look of Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan was brilliant with landscapes to die for from serene beaches, to a flight in the cloud, hustle-bustle of cities to snow-clad mountains to the harsh scorching deserts. But some how the visuals too were not stitched well. I am not looking for an iota of reality in this film, but the whole idea of, Parekh family coming to the save the people of Paanthukistan is a bit too hard to digest. The makers should have understood that  Khichdi is making a comeback to the big screen after 13 long years, so the audiences are not the same. The taste of the viewers have changed and they have evolved from what you have seen them back then. [caption id=“attachment_13398592” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] A still from Khichdi 2[/caption] Today’s audience will not take what you serve them on a plate. They love comedy for sure, but with a good dose of wit. So, the script has to be witty and that is the magic of good comedy films. The audience wants good humour, and you give it to us, we are willing to take it. But definitely not a lazily made film with not much thought. Come on how can one mistake ‘oxygen on kardo’ for ‘o_ff-season aloo paratha’_, consolation prize to constipation prize and many of those silly dialogues which were definitely not funny. And most importantly, the movie didn’t do justice to good craftsmen like Pratik Gandhi and Kirti Kulhari .  Though Pratik had a guest appearance and played the role of a chopper pilot, who vanishes right in the beginning, but Kirti was seen doing some funny dance scenes and frivolous expressions which made absolutely no sense. Some characters in Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan like Hansa (Supriya Pathak) didn’t change and it was wise to keep her character the way it was in the first part. Supriya Pathak does justice to her role as usual. We don’t want her to change a bit, because she is the only fun element in the film. But, otherwise, sitting through this mindless comedy was a royal pain.  Rating: 2 out of 5 WATCH Khichdi 2  movie trailer here:
