As Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday and R Madhavan starrer Kesari: Chapter 2 has released today at the box office, the latter has expressed his disappointment for not knowing about Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair despite being from South India.
For the unversed, Akshay played the role of Sankaran Nair , a fearless lawyer who fought against British Empire to seek the justice for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
“Mujhe sharmindagi hai ki main khud Sankaran Nair ke baare mein kabhi nahi suna. Na hi padha. Aur mujhe is baat ka bohot bada garv hai is film industry ke baare mein, ki Akshay Kumar jaise insaan Sankaran Nair kar rahe hain. Aur main dakshin Bharat ka hone ke bawajood North ka kirdaar nibha raha hu inke against. Aur ye isi industry mein ho sakta hai. (I feel ashamed that I had never heard or read about Sankaran Nair before. And at the same time, I feel immense pride for this film industry- that someone like Akshay Paaji is portraying Sankaran Nair. And despite being from South India, I am playing a North Indian character opposite him. This can only happen in this industry)," Maddy said at a recent promotional event for the film.
Praising Akshay Kumar’s dedication, he shared, “Iss film ke liye unhone mujhe majbooran act karwaya. Unhone apna faisla suna diya tha ki Madhavan hi karega ye role. Aur inhone jo kasht uthaaya hai mujhe is film kaa hissa banana mein uske liye main bohot dhanyavaad feel karta hu sir. Mujhe aapne itihaas ka hissa bana diya. (He made me act in it. He had already decided that only Madhavan would play this role. And the effort you put in to make me a part of this film- for that, I am deeply grateful, sir. You have made me a part of history)."
