Katrina Kaif on why she differs with Karan Johar on doing a Chikni Chameli again: Never felt objectified
Citing examples of singers like Madonna and Beyonce, Katrina Kaif said that the objectification depends on the performer and her perspective of the song.

Karan Johar had recently spoken about how he would not like to feature 'item numbers' such as 'Chikni Chameli' under his banner Dharma Productions, since they objectify women. However, when Katrina Kaif was asked to comment on Johar' statement, she said she never felt objectified by such songs.
Speaking to Film Companion, Johar said that while women dancing in a song does not necessarily qualify it as an item number, he has a problem with men lusting for women and then being treated as object of desire. He further pledged that he would not be including any such songs in films made under his banner.
Responding to Johar, Katrina told DNA that she never felt objectified while shooting for the Agneepath chartbuster. Katrina said, "Madonna, who I'm sure we all know of, I don't think she is feeling objectified. I don't think Beyonce who performs in a swimsuit on stage is feeling objectified. It's all about how you feel while you are performing that song." adding that it is the perspective from which the song is viewed that makes the difference.
However, she also said that she would not like to perform numbers which would not have a context in the narrative of the film.
Kaif will be next seen in Aanand L Rai's high concept film Zero as an actress struggling with alcoholism. The Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer is scheduled for a release on 21 December.
