Katrina Kaif has completed two decades in the industry and is one of the most successful names in the country. Born in Hong Kong and brought up in London, she didn’t have it easy while growing up. In an interview with Barkha Dutt back in 2009, spoke about her growing-up years and how she felt a sense of belongingness to India when she came to the country. First talking about how she was a dark child out of the eight children, she revealed, “Probably it may sound very stupid. You know you must have seen enough and your friends, how you have a dark children who grew up to be fair. I was a very dark child so there was no way that you would look at me and say this is a Caucasian child. I was always viewed upon as oh how exotic or how ethnic."

The actress added, “I was always aware of that and in some case I think I lacked a sense of belonging because we travelled to so many countries and by coincidence those countries were the first, Hong Kong, China, Japan, France, very very predominantly white fair Caucasian countries so that I think it instilled in me more which is probably why when I came to India.” On a sense of belonging Maybe other people would have gotten afraid, maybe they would have said I can’t just come to your country and land up here. But probably for me I felt such a sense of belonging because I realised that I don’t know that it just fit somehow.” Katrina is now gearing up for the release of her film _Merry Christmas_ that also stars Vijay Sethupathi and is releasing on January 12, 2024.
