Karishma Tanna's husband Varun Bangera and actor Sameer Kochhar fall prey to real estate scam; duped of Rs 1 crore

At a time when real estate scams have become increasingly common, especially among celebrities, actress Karishma Tanna’s husband Varun Bangera, and actor Sameer Kochhar have become the recent ones to become a victim of real estate fraud. According to the latest media reports, Varun Bangera and Sameer Kochhar in their complaint to the Andheri police have reported a fraud of approximately Rs 1 crore. It has been alleged that the fraud was committed in the name of giving them flats in Mumbai’s Bandra area. An FIR has been lodged and the matter is presently under investigation. Karishma Tanna ’s husband and actor Sameer Kochhar fall prey to real estate scam As per the available information, Sameer Kochhar filed a case with the Mumbai police alleging that two individuals named Ronit Nath and Amisha Nath cheated him and his friend Varun Bangera of Rs 58.50 lakhs and Rs 44.66 lakhs respectively under the guise of selling flats. Notably, the incident dates back to December 2020 when Sameer Kochhar and his wife Radhika Kochhar along with Varun Bangera, the wife of actress Karishma Tanna went to search properties in Mumbai. It was then that they learned about the Nath couple planning to build a four-floor building in Bandra West. As the Kochhar couple and Varun Bangera visited the site, they were convinced by Pronit Nath to construct a building and sell it to them. They decided to purchase one flat each and subsequently made a deal which was finalised with a token of Rs 11 lakhs for the Kochhar’s flat and a token of rupees 19.85 lakhs for the Bangera’s flat. However, later they discovered that there was a loan on the property and Nath had already mortgaged it to a financial company. This time too, the Nath couple assured them about the mortgage and requested them to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). As per the MOU, 30 per cent of the amount would be paid immediately, while the remaining amount will be paid after clearing the title. That is when the Kochhars and Bangeras issued another set of cheques for Rs 18.25 lakhs and Rs 12.40 lakhs respectively. However, it was finally in June this year when Nath informed them through WhatsApp messages that they no longer wanted to sell the property. Shocked upon hearing this, the complainants claimed that the Nath couple used their money to clear the loan and deceived them. In line with their complaint, an FIR has been filed in the matter under various sections at the Andheri police station.
