Karan Johar reveals Sanjay Leela Bhansali didn't call him after 'Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani'

Karan Johar is fresh off the success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which came out in July. In terms of box-office, it’s the filmmaker’s biggest hit. The Dhindhora Baaje song was an ode to the Dola Re Dola song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, as mentioned by Johar himself.

While speaking to fashion designer Prabal Gurung, the filmmaker revealed if he got a call from Bhansali, to which Johar said, “No. He has actually never called me after any films but I have called him several times.” He said he did get a call from Anurag Kashyap post the release of the film though.

He also said, “Anurag Kashyap I love. But he just ruined my profession as an actor because I would have been a..very functional actor.”

Karan Johar has said this in many of his interviews that Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, his 2016 directorial, stemmed from a personal experience of ache, anguish, and one-sided love. In a recent interview with Mid-day, he opened up about this lover he didn’t name and revealed, “That person was completely sensitive to me and went through every beat with me with utmost sensitivity so I can neither hate that person nor can be indifferent towards them. Today, that person is very much part of my family."

As part of the conversation with Mid-Day,  Karan Johar revealed snippets from a ‘scary incident’ that unfolded on the premiere night of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai starring  Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji. The filmmaker shared that he was hiding in a hotel room after receiving a threat from a gangster.

On Bollywood’s Baadshah being his most cherished friend, the ace director revealed how he stood by him like a rock. Karan said, “I’ll never forget how Shah Rukh brought me out. He said, ‘I’ll take the bullet for you, you just stand here’. That’s when I realised this is a forever relationship.”
