Comedian Kapil Sharma, who has featured in Forbes Magazine’s top 100 richest Indian celebrities list six times, does not have a spot in the edition of this year. The period for consideration is from 1 October, 2017 to 30 September, 2018. However, Sharma who became a household name with his show Comedy Nights with Kapil, witnessed an incredible slump after courting multiple controversies .
Although he was placed on the 18th spot on the list last year with earnings amounting to Rs 48 crore, this year, comedians such as Bharti Singh, Sunil Grover and Krushna Abhishek raked in more money than him.
Kapil’s downfall began as soon as his show went off air in September last year owing to dwindling TRPs and he put his career on backburner to focus on his health. Last year, he hit headlines for his mid-air fight with fellow comedian Sunil Grover. Grover quit the show and went on to work on other comedy shows. Then, Kapil’s Bollywood venture Firangi also tanked at the box office. He tried to redeem his career by launching a new show titled Family Time With Kapil Sharma, which failed to leave a mark. Then came the biggest blow to his career — his spat with a journalist which resulted in a Twitter meltdown.
