Kader Khan passes away; Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Ram Nath Kovind tweet condolences

Veteran actor and screenwriter Kader Khan passed away at 81 on 31 December in Canada.

Following the death of veteran Bollywood actor and writer Kader Khan after a prolonged illness, many PM Narendra Modi, President Ram Nath Kovind and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi shared their condolences with Khan’s family, friends as well as fans. We will miss him,” Gandhi said in a Facebook post.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 1 January recalled the unique sense of humour of veteran actor Kader Khan, who passed away after a prolonged illness. “Kader Khan ji brightened the screen with his stupendous acting skills and lightened it thanks to his unique sense of humour. He was also a prolific screenwriter, associated with many memorable films. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers,” the Prime Minister tweeted.

President Ram Nath Kovind also mourned the loss of Khan. “His versatility, from comic to negative roles, and the films he embellished as a writer are still remembered,” he tweeted on 1 January.

As per reports, he was suffering from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, a degenerative disease that causes loss of balance, difficulty in walking and dementia. Khan was admitted to a hospital in Canada and passed away at 81 on 31 December. His son Sarfaraz confirmed that the last rites will be conducted in the country. Born in Kabul, Khan made his acting debut in 1973 with Rajesh Khanna’s Daag and has featured in over 300 films. He wrote dialogues for over 250 movies. Before becoming an actor he had written dialogues for Randhir Kapoor- Jaya Bachchan’s Jawani Diwani. As a screenwriter, Khan frequently collaborated with Manmohan Desai and Prakash Mehra. His films with Desai include Dharam Veer, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Coolie, Desh Premee, Suhaag, Parvarish and Amar Akbar Anthony and films with Mehra include Jwalamukhi, Sharaabi, Lawaaris and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.
