Kabali box office collection: Rajinikanth-starrer has Rs 40 crore opening, say experts

The most awaited release from the south this year, Superstar Rajinikanth’s Kabali is now breaking box office records, with an estimated 40 crores collection on the very first day. In the next three days, the film is set to rule the box office with a turnover of over 100 crores. It seems like despite receiving middling feedback from reviewers, nothing is going to stop the audience from watching Thailava’s release. It is Rajinikanth’s style and starpower which is pulling people to the theaters. According to The Economic Times, the film’s first day collection is estimated to cross over 40 crores worldwide. As most shows were pre-booked days before the release, the film is expected to collect over Rs 120 crores in the first weekend itself. According to The International Business Times, this is the biggest opening for a Rajinikanth movie, as his previous release stood at Rs 37 crores. The movie which is believed to be solely running because of the Rajinikanth magic, is predicted to beat box office records of the Khan’s biggest hits like Dilwale, Dhoom 3 and Sultan. The film opened in 6,500 screens and almost 3,500 screens were booked for the first day. With trade experts have no doubt that the movie will break all box office records, the film has been booked for the entire weekend in 2,000 screens. The movie has received a humgous response in Tamil Nadu with fans flocking to theaters as early as 1 am. The shows have been booked for almost an entire week in the Chennai. The huge amount of collections and pre-booking wave did not stop with that. The film has scored big time in Karnataka and Kerala as well, despite of not being dubbed in Kannada and Malayalam. Andhar box office collections too tweeted about a massive response in the state. According to News 18, the action drama opened on 306 screens in Kerala and it’s the biggest release for a Tamil film in the state. In an interview with The Economic Times, Vijay Singh CEO at Fox Star Studios said Kabali has lived up to the high expectation and opened to packed houses in almost every part of the country. As expected the Tamil version has opened to nearly 90 percent occupancy, while the Hindi version also has witnessed a surprising 50 per cent opening. The Rajini mania, did not stop with India alone. The movie has broken records abroad as well. The Tamil action drama has collected $2 million from the US and Canada markets, according to distribution company CineGalaxy Inc. Kabali has also been ranked in the top 10 releases across the world. Taran Adarsh tweeted about the film being number one at the Malaysian box office, number three in USA and Canada and number ten in the UK. Kabali released in over 400 screens in the US and Canada. While box office records are speaking volumes, the 100 crore budget film, has earned about 225 crores from the sales of theatrical, audio and satellite rights, according to IBT times.
