Kaabil trailer 2 features Hrithik Roshan in a vengeful avatar; Rajinikanth lauds the performance
The second trailer of Sanjay Gupta's revenge drama Kaabil ups the ante against Rahul Dholakia's crime drama Raees as the two films are scheduled to release on the same day next month.
What we have been seeing recently of Kaabil was the lead pair Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam bonding and falling in love with the title song 'Kaabil Hoon' playing in the background. The romantic song had somewhere toned down the intensity of this aggressive revenge drama and the dark genre of films that Gupta is known for.
However, Trailer 2 reestablishes the genre of the film and effectively juxtaposes the light moments with the dark ones. The trailer starts on a dark note as Hrithik's character is seen vowing to become capable enough for Yami but his expression and the haunting background score suggest that being kaabil or capable is no longer about sustaining his wife but perhaps, avenging her death. There is a scar on his face which speaks volumes about how scarred he feels on the inside.
How the trailer progresses from there is equally commendable. The dark tone of the trailer gives you goosebumps and gives a glimpse into the transformation that his character goes through and turns into a vindictive lover. While some of the dialogues are cliched including the closing one and Roshan's blank expression does not help either. It is a given that the expression is an outcome of his blindness but he could consider taking a cue from Gautam who emotes brilliantly and projects her vulnerable self aptly. Her eyes remain lifeless, but the rest of the face give out the mixed emotion of fear and contentment very well.
Rajesh Roshan has also rehashed the music of the title track an turned into a sad haunting version which plays in the background throughout the second trailer. It complements the trailer perfectly and leaves a powerful impression after the trailer ends.
The promos and music of Kaabil have even got the attention of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth. He has been on great terms with the producer, Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan as they also co-starred in his father-in-law J. Om Prakash's crime drama Bhagwaan Dada which released in 1986. The film also starred Hrithik as a child artiste.
Bollywood Life reports that when Rakesh called Rajinikanth to wish him on his 66th birthday on 12 December, the latter wished him luck for Kaabil and appreciated what he had seen so far. “I have watched the Tamil, Hindi and Telugu trailers of Kaabil and I simply loved it. I also think Hrithik is stupendous. Please tell him that I am eagerly awaiting the film," he said, as per the report by Bollywood Life.
Thalaiva also appreciated the music by Rajesh as he lauded the tunes of the title song Kaabil Hoon and Urvashi Rautela's item number Haseeno Ka Deewana.
Kaabil is produced by Rakesh Roshan under FilmKraft Entertainment and is slated to release on 25 January, 2017.
