Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has confirmed that he is currently working on a major nationalistic film, amid growing speculation that his next project may be inspired by India’s recent military response reportedly codenamed Operation Sindoor.

In an interaction with India Today, the National Award-winning director avoided revealing specific details about the film but hinted at its scale and ambition. “I am currently working on a very big and very interesting nationalistic project,” Agnihotri said, adding that he would share more information “at the right time.”

Reports suggest that the project could draw inspiration from India’s counter-terror strikes across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, conducted following the Pahalgam attack. While speculation continues to grow, Agnihotri has not officially confirmed any direct link between his upcoming film and the operation. A report in Pinkvilla suggested that The Kashmir Files director is working on a film based on a “codename of India’s military strikes on terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).” The report further stated, “Bhushan Kumar and Vivek Agnihotri have come together for their next film on ‘Operation Sindoor’. It will be produced under T-Series, and I am Buddha Production and the film will be directed by Vivek Agnihotri.”

Addressing the circulating reports, the filmmaker maintained a cautious stance, choosing not to elaborate further. “I will reveal more at the appropriate time,” he said, indicating that the project is still in development and that formal announcements will follow later.

If confirmed, the film would join a growing list of Hindi cinema projects centred on real-life military actions and national security themes, reflecting a continuing audience interest in stories rooted in contemporary events and geopolitics.
