As Vikram’s film Iru Mugan releases today (Thursday 8 September), audiences are most curious to see their favourite star in a dual role. Vikram plays two characters in Anand Shankar’s film, Akhilan, a RAW agent and an alleged transgender villain, Love.
However, Vikram and the director himself have spoken about how we have to watch the film to really know whether Love is a transgender character.
“Everybody generally thinks that it is a stereotype, since Love is outlandish. Actually, all we wanted to do was to show the difference between the two characters. I know that the trailer has raised questions on the depiction, but you’ll have to wait to watch the film to find the answers,” says Vikram in this interview with The Hindu.
Meanwhile, so far three songs from the film, composed by Harris Jayaraj, have been released: ‘Halena’ ‘Kannai Vittu’ and ‘Face Off’. Iru Mugan is a thriller on the themes of international espionage. Nayanthara plays Love’s love interest (Helena) and Nithya Menen plays a RAW agent Aarushi.
While reviews have not yet been published of the film, Twitter is buzzing with conversations about Iru Mugan.
Best wishes to Vikram sir and the entire crew for iru mugan. Rock it sir.

#IruMugan glossily made watchable entertainer. Vikram stands tall over the middling screenplay that oscillates between high & low points.

Kamal Haasan is great BUT vikram should be regarded on the same level. THE ABILITY 2 MOLD YOURSELF INTO A ROLE IS VIKRAM'S TALENT.#IruMugan

#IruMugan first half done. Average. Nayantara looks gorgeous. Thanbi ramiah is irritating.
