How Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani's 'Dunki' became the biggest hit in a non-action genre | Explained

After Pathaan and Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan gave his fans Dunki in 2023. The film has done a business of over Rs 215 crore in India and more than Rs 400 crore worldwide, making it a success story. Ever since the pandemic has ended, a majority of the films that have done well are all action potboilers like the aforementioned blockbusters of SRK , KGF 2, RRR, Pushpa- The Rise.  Ranbir Kapoor’s Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Ranveer Singh’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani were two films last year that did moderate business, but Hirani’s film went bonkers especially internationally. As per a report by Hindustan Times,  SRK  is now expected to make the announcement of his next slate for 2024. A source said, “Everyone in the industry is looking forward and are excited to know about his next step. But he is not in any hurry to sign a project. He has some scripts in his hand, but he will go through them after coming back from his break. He will come and sit and analyze what he wants to do next.” _Dunki_ is srill enjoying an amazing run in the theaters with great positive word of mouth coming in from the audience. Filled with humor and heart, Dunki’s narrative has touched the hearts of viewers, driving families to theaters with its feel-good content. This ultimate family entertainer crossed the 200 Cr. mark in India and the 400 Cr. mark worldwide. Despite being a non-action film, Dunki has seen exceptional popularity and collections, standing as a testament to Rajkumar Hirani’s cinema, brimming with love, humor, and emotions. Khan was recently named the Indian of the Year Award at the CNN News 18 Indian Of The Year 2023 Awards. The actor, while receiving the award, delivered a heartfelt speech and thanked his fans and supporters. He shared he’s “grateful” for the love everyone gave to his films in 2023.
