Bollywood has enjoyed a phenomenal 2023 as many Hindi films performed supremely well at the box office, especially in the last two months where it delivered successes like OMG 2, Gadar 2, Dream Girl 2, Jawan and Fukrey 3. However, the last weekend turned out to be a major disappointment for Bollywood. On 6th October, three prominent Hindi films arrived at the box office in the form of Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra’s Mission Raniganj , Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh & Kusha Kapila’s Thank Your For Coming and Rajveer Deol and Paloma Dhillon’s Dono . While all three films garnered decent to positive response from critics, they failed to create any kind of magic at the box office. While Mission Raniganj earned Rs 12.60 crore, Thank You For Coming raked in merely Rs 4.42 crore in its opening weekend. Dono featuring the star kids earned below Rs 2 crore.
The reason behind Mission Raniganj’s underperformance is said to be no buzz around the film with the overexposure of Akshay Kumar with 4 to 5 releases every year. On the other hand, the subject of Thank You For Coming is very niche with no prominent star headlining the project. While these films will face the heat of the ongoing World Cup, it would be interesting to see if any upcoming projects open well at the box office. Talking about Mission Raniganj, the film also features Kumud Mishra, Ravi Kishan, Pavan Malhotra, Varun Badola and others in prominent roles. On the other hand, Thank You For Coming stars Shibani Bedi, Anil Kapoor and Ritvik Divgikar.
