High Court restrains duplication of 'Chakravyuh'

New Delhi: To curb piracy, the Delhi High Court on Friday restrained some cable operators from duplicating and showing the upcoming Bollywood movie Chakravyuh without proper licence from the producer of film, Eros International. Justice Hima Kohli noted that “irreparable loss and injury” would be caused to the production house if cable operators, allegedly in the business of duplicating, selling and making available tapes, CDs, DVDs, are not restrained. Directed and produced by filmmaker Prakash Jha, Chakravyuh is scheduled for release Oct 24. Eros International Media Ltd., co-producer of the film, moved the court against cable operators, a multiplex in Ghaziabad and a free data sharing site saying that the “plaintiff (Eros) is the co-producer of the film Chakravyuh and has exclusive rights to exploit this film”. “They should be retrained from communicating without license or displaying, releasing, showing… through different mediums like CD, DVD, Blue Ray, VCD, Cable TV, DTH, Internet services, MMS Tapes, Conditional Access System or in other like manner,” the petition stated. Eros also said that on March 7 it entered into an agreement with Prakash Jha Production, producer of ‘Chakravyuh’, whereby Jha assigned all the rights to Eros. Two days ago the court allowed the release of the song ‘Mehengai’ from ‘Chakravyuh’ in a defamation suit filed by Bata, which claimed the use of its name in a song on inflation was “offending”. IANS
