Netflix drama ‘The Crown’ has finally entered the most interesting part of the British royal saga. While the first four episodes attempt to recreate the final days of Princess Diana, makers also shed light on her relationship with Egyptian film producer Dodi Al-Fayed and the events that led up to her death in a Paris channel. Amid that, there is also a special scene that shows the late princess planning her ‘final gift’ for her youngest son, Prince Harry. In the episode, Princess Diana was seen buying a PlayStation as a birthday present for Harry’s 13th birthday; however, she never got to wish her son or present him the gift. However, confusion still remains as Prince Harry in his bombshell memoir ‘Spare’ reveals that he did receive a gift from his late mother but it was an Xbox. This is where the facts come into play. Logically, Harry couldn’t have received the Xbox from his late mother as the console wasn’t available to buy until 4 years later. Princess Diana’s final gift for her son Harry Speaking about the scene, the drama shows Princess Diana asking a member of Dodi’s team to get a birthday present for her son. Later, she is shown wrapping the PlayStation while sitting in the Eiffel Tower with the wrapping paper and writing a note that reads, “Happy Birthday Harry, Love, Mummy.” It was on 30 August 1997 that the late princess got the gift, while Harry’s birthday was on 15 September 1997. Coming back to Prince Harry’s memoir, he mentions that it was days after his mother’s death that he received the box from his aunt Sarah and found an Xbox inside it. However, shortly after the memoir came out, many media reports started taking up the issue mentioning that Xbox wouldn’t have been on the market for 4 years. In such a case, a possibility arises that Lady Sarah McCorquodale, Princess Diana’s sister could have passed along the birthday gift from her late sister and PlayStation isn’t out of the possibility, especially when Prince Harry remembers getting a video game console. On the other hand, The Crown creator Peter Morgan also clarified that he didn’t read the memoir prior to working on the final series.
