Hera Pheri 3 faces fresh setback: Writer Rohan Shankar exits project, cites legal issues

The long-delayed Hera Pheri 3 has encountered yet another setback, with writer Rohan Shankar officially stepping away from the project. The development adds to the growing list of complications that have kept the much-anticipated sequel stuck in limbo.

Writer Walks Out Amid Legal Complications

Shankar revealed that his exit stems from the ongoing legal and rights-related disputes surrounding the film. While he had been actively involved in discussions and even contributed to the teaser, the unresolved issues made it difficult for him to continue.

In a conversation with News18 Showsha, Shankar said, “I was in talks, and it was supposed to happen, but it didn’t because of legal issues."

Priyadarshan Factor: A Possible Return?

Interestingly, Shankar has left a window open for a comeback. The writer stated that he would consider returning to the project if filmmaker Priyadarshan comes on board as the director. He added, “Hopefully, if Hera Pheri 3 happens and if Priyadarshan sir is there, maybe I will be too.”

When asked to explain the statement, he clarified, “No, Priyan sir, because he is doing a lot of work, we have just shot Bhoot Bangla and Haiwan, and now he has to do another film. After that, he has to do a film with Mohanlal sir, which is his 100th film… He doesn’t stop. Priyan sir works a lot. Priyan sir and Akshay sir are workaholics."

His statement signals strong faith in Priyadarshan’s creative vision, especially given the filmmaker’s association with the earlier films in the franchise. However, with Priyadarshan currently occupied with other commitments, this possibility remains uncertain.

Star Cast Still in Waiting

Hera Pheri 3 was expected to reunite the franchise’s iconic trio of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal, a factor that has kept fan anticipation high despite repeated delays. However, the project has been marred by controversies, including casting uncertainties, legal notices, and production standstills, making its future increasingly unclear.

Director Priyadarshan had earlier addressed the issue and confirmed that the film’s production has been facing a delay. “Certain people said they have the rights to the film, while others claimed rights to the music,” he said. When he was asked when the filming would begin, he clarified that legal matters must be settled before filming can start and confirmed. “Definitely not this year,” he said when asked about the shooting schedule.
