We haven't seen romance dealt in the way Piku does: Irrfan Khan

New Delhi: Actor Irrfan Khan feels most of the Bollywood films are restricted to the dramatic, artificial depiction of love stories. The 48-year-old actor, whose The Lunchbox relied on subtlety and silence in a romantic relationship, said films should have scope for unspoken exchange of love between characters. It becomes very boring as an actor. You are looking for a director, who is ready to explore and bring a new layer to it.” “There is something you can see and hear but there is another story which you are seeing but nobody is saying it. Like what happened in The Lunchbox, unsaid was much more powerful than what was said,” Irrfan told PTI. His latest is the family drama Piku, where he plays Deepika Padukone’s love interest. The actor said understated love story was one of the things that attracted him to the movie. The Qissa star feels real-life romance is much deeper than just looking dreamily at your lover and films should explore the gamut of emotions a person goes when he/she is in love. “We haven’t seen romance dealt in the way Piku does. In our cinema romance has some definition and in that area it circulates. It does not go deeper, does not go in the periphery and does not see where it is coming from. “In a film, when a couple look at each other it is understood that they can die for each other but in real life it does not happen. Sometimes you are deeply in love with each other but you cannot say that. There is a pull towards that person. Piku has those new elements. It is bringing something new to the commercial cinema,” he said. Piku, also starring Amitabh Bachchan and directed by Shoojit Sircar, released on Friday. PTI
