The Hateful Eight trailer: Quentin Tarantino's latest takes us for a wild ride in the west

In January 2014, when the script for Quentin Tarantino’s next project was leaked, it seemed quite unlikely that it would ever see the light of a projector. Tarantino at the time said he would be dropping the project altogether and for a director who is known to be painfully meticulous with his scripts, it seemed like his next project would be delayed indefinitely. But a few months later, Tarantino directed a live read of the leaked script and announced that he will be working on the same script after all and that the movie will go into production. Screengrab from YouTube[/caption] And now, almost a year later, the first trailer of the long awaited western, The Hateful Eight is here. This will be second western directed by Tarantino after his 2012, Django Unchained, although the genre has influenced many of the director’s projects whos is a self-proclaimed Sergio Leone fan. The new movie will see Tarantino reunite with actors Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Tim Roth, Zoë Bell, Michael Madsen and Bruce Dern. The film also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh and Demian Bichir. Some sources claim Channing Tatum will also make a cameo. The score of the movie will be provided by industry veteran Ennio Morricone, who has also worked with Leone during his stellar career. The trailer has everything you’ed expect from a Tarantino movie: quirky dialogues, intriguing characters and lots of guns. Jackson fits right into the scene and it’s good to see Roth pick up a major role again. But the prize for the best “I’ll watch the movie just for that” goes to Russell’s moustache. The official synopsis for The Hateful Eight reads:

In THE HATEFUL EIGHT, set six or eight or twelve years after the Civil War, a stagecoach hurtles through the wintry Wyoming landscape. The passengers, bounty hunter John Ruth (Russell) and his fugitive Daisy Domergue (Leigh), race towards the town of Red Rock where Ruth, known in these parts as “The Hangman,” will bring Domergue to justice. Along the road, they encounter two strangers: Major Marquis Warren (Jackson), a black former union soldier turned infamous bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix (Goggins), a southern renegade who claims to be the town’s new Sheriff. Losing their lead on the blizzard, Ruth, Domergue, Warren and Mannix seek refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery, a stagecoach stopover on a mountain pass. When they arrive at Minnie’s, they are greeted not by the proprietor but by four unfamiliar faces. Bob (Bichir), who’s taking care of Minnie’s while she’s visiting her mother, is holed up with Oswaldo Mobray (Roth), the hangman of Red Rock, cow-puncher Joe Gage (Madsen), and Confederate General Sanford Smithers (Dern). As the storm overtakes the mountainside stopover, our eight travelers come to learn they may not make it to Red Rock after all…

The movie will be a break from the so called “rewritten history” trilogy of Tarantino, of which Inglorious Bastards and Django Unchained were the first two parts. This will also be the eighth Tarantino feature to hit the big screens (Kill Bill Vol 1 and 2 goes as one), as we inch closer to his claim that he’d direct only ten films in his lifetime to preserve his ’legacy’. The movie will hit the screens on 8 January 2016.
