Haseena Parkar: Shraddha Kapoor starrer to feature grandchildren of the real mafia queen
Apoorva Lakhia's upcoming film, Haseena Parkar has in the news ever since the film was announced. And rightly so, as it is based on the life of the sister of one of the most feared criminals of India, Dawood Ibrahim.
Lakhia wanted to bring forth to the audience an authentic and unusual story of the don's sister, Haseena Parkar. So much so, he has roped in Parkar's grandchildren to play parts in the film, reports Bombay Times.
According to the report, Lakhia has cast the real Parkar's grandchildren to portray different stages of their grandmother's younger self before Sharaddha Kapoor appears as the grown-up Haseena Parkar.
Lakhia further elucidates saying, "The story spans across 40 years. So, we needed 17 kids to portray various stages of Parkar — from a newborn to the age of 25. While casting, I realised that some of Parkar's grandchildren fit that age bracket. That's how they ended up in the film."
The family of Parkar was reportedly present during the shoot and didn't interfere at all. "We had decided to make the movie the way we wanted to. So, there was no interference or questioning from any of the family members," adds Lakhia speaking to Bombay Times.
Lakhia has spent a considerable amount of time with the family to know more about Parkar's life, much before the shooting began. He had even reportedly met the real Parkar before her death in 2014. He had also interacted with the Mumbai Police to get their side of Parkar's story, thus ensuring the authenticity of the film.
Haseena Parkar stars Shraddha Kapoor, her brother Siddhanth Kapoor (who plays her reel-life brother and don Dawood Ibrahim) and Ankur Bhatia. Presented by Swiss Entertainment, the film is slated to release on 22 September.
