TMZ reported
that the 71-year-old has quit following a break down in talks over his contract and it was Simpsons writer and director James L. Brooks’ attorney who broke the story via Twitter.
Shearer also thanked his fans on twitter.
Shearer is also known for his work on Saturday Night Live. He also co-wrote, co-created and starred in the cult favourite mockumentary This is Spinal Tap, satirizing the rock and roll culture. Shearer has been with The Simpsons - which was recently renewed for a 26th and 27th run - since it began in 1989. With inputs from PTI
