He may have his share of critics in the literary world, but on Thursday the Gujarat High Court, while reading a section from author Chetan Bhagat’s novel ‘Three mistakes of my life’ observed that some of the language seemed pornographic and indecent. And they weren’t referring to his writing style. The observation was made by a high court bench which was hearing a PIL objecting to the fact that only Hindus had been projected as being solely responsible for the 2002 communal riots in Gujarat in the film Kai Po Che, based on Bhagat’s book. Reuters[/caption] According to a report by The Times of India, the Chief Justice of the high court read a paragraph from the book on which the rioting scene in the film was based. After reading the passage, the judge reportedly observed, “The language doesn’t look decent. A chaste writer cannot write this stuff. The language looks pornographic.” The petitioner in the case is seeking a cancellation of the censor certificate issued to the movie by the censor board, claiming that it was biased in its depiction of Hindus. The PIL has objected to Hindus being projected as rioters and highlighted that this is prohibited under section 5B of the Cinematograph Act. It has appealed to the Censor Board to revoke the clearance certificate awarded to the movie, as per a report by Daily Bhaskar.
Chetan Bhagat has landed in another controversy after Gujarat High Court noted that the language of Bhagat’s novel ‘Three mistakes of my life’ is pornographic.
