Govinda comes clean on his fallout with Karan Johar, Salman Khan, David Dhawan
Govinda has lashed out on filmmaker Karan Johar yet again. No, this time it is not because he wasn't invited to the chat show, Koffee with Karan Season 5, but for releasing his next production, Shashank Khaitan's romantic comedy Barinath Ki Dulhania, merely a week after the actor's next, Aa Gaya Hero.
The Indian Express reported two months ago that Govinda accused Johar of being partial. He complained that Johar never invited him for any of his parties and not even for any season of Koffee with Karan. He claimed that camp politics is rampant in the Hindi film industry and Johar is very much a part of it. He also said that he feels he was ousted from the industry as they don't consider him as educated and as classy as they are.
The Times of India reported that Johar publicly apologised to Govinda for not inviting him on the show. He said that though the team tried to get him on board, it never materialised for some reason or the other. Having said that, Johar did state that he would be happy to have Govinda on the Koffee couch owing to his interesting personality and hopes that the actor would accept his invitation to be on the show.
Now, Pinkvilla reports that Govinda has dubbed Johar as 'dangerous' and 'jealous' and claimed that the chat show host is not as simple and straightforward as he projects himself to be. Govinda added that it is a calculated move on part of Johar to release the much-anticipated Badrinath Ki Dulhania a week after Govinda's next, thus thwarting his business at the box office.
Interestingly, Govinda said that Johar is even more dangerous and jealous than veteran filmmaker David Dhawan.
Govinda has shared a well-documented working relationship with Dhawan as they have collaborated on 17 films, the last one being the 2007 comedy Partner. However, as per a report by Mid-Day, Govinda said that the 18th film never happened, despite the actor's insistence, as David went on to sign Rishi Kapoor for the 2013 film Chashme Baddoor, while it was actually his idea to remake the 1981 classic. Govinda added that David didn't even incorporate a cameo for the actor.
Partner was possibly Govinda's last collaboration with not only David but also co-star Salman Khan. Govinda claimed that a lot of actors, including Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and then Khan, who shared the screen space with Govinda were advised not to do a film by various naysayers as Govinda managed to outshine them on the silver screen, as stated in the report by The Indian Express.
He also hinted that the reason he is not getting good films is because of his tiff with Salman Khan.
Hindustan Times reports that Govinda said that young actors like Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan cannot compare their physique to Khan's as they will not get more films if they speak a word against Khan. He also rubbished the rumours of Varun filling in the shoes of Govinda, as he pointed out that Varun needs to be an 'innocent, uneducated village boy' to be Govinda, rather than conveniently being 'the son of a director'.
Aa Gaya Hero is an action comedy that also stars Ashutosh Rana, Chandrachur Singh and Makarand Deshpande. It is slated to release on 3 March.
