Gotham season 3 is all set to release in September 2016, and Fox just released a synopsis for the season. It’s full of clues of what we can expect in the upcoming season, including “a realignment of alliances”, Jim Gordon’s hunt for Hugo Strange and Fish Mooney, and the “peel[ing> back the curtain” hiding the Court of Owls. Here’s the full synopsis:
The origin story continues on Season Three of Gotham, and the stakes are higher than ever, as Super-Villains more ambitious and depraved are introduced, and a realignment of alliances shakes up the fight for power in Gotham City.
Season Three will peel back the curtain on the infamous criminal organization known as the Court of The Owls. With the Indian Hill escapees on the loose, JIM GORDON (Ben mckenzie) must take matters into his own hands as a bounty hunter in Gotham. He makes it his mission to find HUGO Strange (guest star BD Wong), the mastermind behind the horrifying Indian Hill experiments, and Fish Mooney (guest star Jada Pinkett Smith), one of Strange’s subjects. Meanwhile, GCPD Detective Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) and Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) remain at the forefront of the fight against crime in the monster-ridden city. Also, Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz), with the help of his trusted butler and mentor, Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee), and former Wayne Enterprises employee, Lucius (Chris Chalk), discovers there are still more secrets to uncover regarding his parents’ murders.
AdvertisementAs the city sinks deeper into chaos, Gotham will continue to follow the evolving stories of the city’s most malevolent villains: The Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor); Edward Nygma /the future Riddler (Cory Michael Smith); Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman (Camren Bicondova); Barbara Kean (Erin Richards), and Butch Gilzean (Drew Powell).
The synopsis goes hand-in-hand with the comic-con trailer that we saw on July 2016.
With Fish Mooney deadlier than before, can she make her way back to the top of the food chain, or is there now too much competition for the throne?
Elaborating on The Court of Owls, it is an assassin training center that starts training its operatives at a very young age. ‘All will be judged’ is displayed prominently toward the end of the trailer just before we see Alfred come face to face with one of the Talons from the Court.
The new additions to the cast
Gotham executive producer John Stephens spoke to Comic Book Resources about which villains we’ll see make appearances. He specifically mentions The Mad Hatter, the Tweedle Brothers, Talon (following up on Court of Owls), and Solomon Grundy.
Mad Hatter, also known as Dr Jervis Tetch, will be played by Benedict Samuel. The character was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger for the comic Batman #49. The character is a brilliant hypnotist on the edge of madness who stops at nothing to search for his younger sister, Alice, who went missing in Gotham city years ago.
It sounds like the Tweed Brothers, will also be cast in the new season of Gotham. The sibling duo resembles Alice in Wonderland‘s Tweedledum and Tweedledee and, in comic book iterations have served as “the muscle” for Jervis Tech’s Mad Hatter.
There’s a new Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha) who will be replacing Claire Foley. The switch was explained with this:
The series also will catch up with the future Poison Ivy (Maggie Geha), who, after an encounter with a monster from Indian Hill, finds herself reborn as a young woman who’s harnessed the full power of her charms.
The storytelling logic behind having Poison Ivy/Ivy Pepper “reborn” as a young woman in Gotham season 3 (after she was portrayed as a child by Clare Foley in seasons 1 and 2) has yet to be explained in full, though at least we now know the plot device that spurs her transformation.
Jamie Chung has been cast as the reporter Valerie Vale who is dead set on uncovering the truth about Indian Hill, and then sets her sights on the next big story: Jim Gordon.
Carmine Falcone isn’t around much anymore, but the Falcone crime family bloodline will live on in the form of young Mario Falcone. James Carpinello will play Mario Falcone. Mario as someone who has “rejected his family’s criminal ways and made a legitimate life for himself as a well-respected, Ivy League-educated ER doctor. He’s kind, honest and trustworthy, making him the black sheep of the Falcone clan.
