Google doodle on 'Mother India' Nargis for her 86th birth anniversary
Nargis Dutt, one of India's most iconic Bollywood stars, would have celebrated her 86th birthday today and to celebrate Google has dedicated a beautiful doodle to her.
She was born Fatima Rashid in 1929, but gained stardom with her screen name, Nargis. She made her screen debut as a child in Talash-E-Haq in 1935, but her acting career began in 1942 with Tamanna.
During a career from the 1940s to the 1960s, Nargis appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films like Awara, Shree 420 and Barsaat, which featured her alongside actor-director Raj Kapoor.
However, her most iconic performance was 'Mother India' for which she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award. This movie also was the first Indian movie to be nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
She married her Mother India co-star Sunil Dutt in 1958 and they had three children: actor Sanjay Dutt, Namrata Dutt and former Congress lawmaker Priya Dutt. She also became the first film actress to be conferred with the Padma Shri in 1958.
She died tragically at the age of 51 due to pancreatic cancer.
