Good news for Indian cinephiles: National Film Archive of India acquires Oscar-winning films

The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) has added a slew of recent award-winning foreign films in their archive, reports The Hindu.  All titles are internationally acclaimed, having been feted at the most prestigious film festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival, the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes’ Awards, the British Academy Film Awards and the Robert Awards (the Danish equivalent of Academy Awards). The titles include: The dramatic film Lemming (2005), the funny Les Invasions Barbares (2003) and the crime drama The Beat That My Heart Skipped (2005). Lemming, which stars Charlotte Rampling in a scene-stealing performance, follows a strange dinner party after which the attendees make discoveries about their seemingly well-ordered hosts. Here’s the trailer for Lemming (2005):

Other films on the list include Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Gori Vatra (2004), L’enfant from Belguim and the gripping Danish political thriller Kongekabale (2004). Kongekabale or _King’s Gam_e follows Ulrik (Anders W. Berthelsen) witnessing a struggle for power after a party leader is involved in a deadly car accident. Here’s the trailer of the film:

The same report stated how the six films were acquired from Narayan Srinivasan, a Mumbai resident, and a second lot was acquired from the Iranian consulate in Mumbai. “We are proud to have a representative collection of world cinema, and thrilled to acquire these notable titles which have immensely enriched our collection,” said Prakash Magdum, Director, NFAI.
