Golden Globes 2019: The Americans, Keri Russell's spy thriller series, wins first Best Drama Series for final season

The Americans, a twisty spy thriller, starring Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell, won its first Best Drama Series Golden Globe award for its sixth and the final season. According to Variety, the show bested other nominees, Bodyguard, Homecoming, Killing Eve and Pose in this category. To accept the award, the show’s creator, executive producer and writer Joe Weisberg thanked the cast, crew and the team at FX. “This was a show about a marriage and that’s what we want people to think about and look back on that we explored and wrote about and acted and directed. A very intense marriage that went through a lot of ups and downs … a complex but ultimately loving marriage,” he said backstage, writes The Hollywood Reporter. The FX series about Cold War espionage, which wrapped its sixth and final season in May 2018, has received five Golden Globe nominations during its run. The Americans is a period drama about the complex marriage of two KGB spies posing as Americans in suburban Washington DC during the Reagan administration. The show also features Keidrich Sellati, Noah Emmerich, Brandon J Dirden and Costa Ronin. The Americans is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.
