Goa may host an Electronic Dance Music festival called Sunburn Classic on 23 and 24 February
Goa may well witness the once-popular Sunburn Festival this year, though in a different manner. Reports state that the tourism department has received a proposal to organise an EDM festival of a similar kind on 23 and 24 February.
The suggested event will have the title 'Sunburn Classic'. The proposal has been submitted to the government for their advice, by Shailesh Shetty, who was formerly associated with Viacom 18's festival Supersonic. The event was pulled out of Goa after hosting the festival for three years.
Harindra Singh, the chief managing director of Percept Ltd, told media that they were happy to make a comeback even though it was on a much smaller scale.
Percept had earlier moved the venue for the event from Goa to Pune after the Goa government made it clear that the festival could not be held in the city till oragnisers do not clear arrears. The festival was then shifted to Pune in 2017.
The Goa government's decision later came under attack by various trade bodies as many felt that the fee charged by the government, Rs 1 crore (which was non-refundable), over and above other charges, was a grossly high amount for such an event. This in turn was drove away organisers from the city.
