Ghanchakkar trailer out: Robbery, memory loss and madness

After Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi are back in filmmaker Rajkumar Gupta’s much awaited film Ghanchkaaar and after much speculation, the first trailer of the film’s out, and it seems well worth waiting for. Hashmi, who has steadily been deviating from his serial kisser image, plays the role of a bank robbing thief who suffers  from memory loss. Balan, last seen in Kahaani, plays his ‘hatti-katti’ Punjabi housewife with a taste for kitsch. [caption id=“attachment_679623” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] A still from the youtube trailer A still from the youtube trailer[/caption] In the two-minute-long trailer the basic contours of the plot are revealed. Hashmi and his two associates rob a bank together wearing Amitabh, Dharmendra and Utpal Dutt masks. Hashmi stashes away the money promising to split it later. However, when his associates call to claim the loot, Hashmi refuses to recognise them.  The disgruntled partners kidnap Hashmi with the intention of torturing him into confessing where he has hidden the cash. But to their dismay, they discover that he has lost his memory and doesn’t know himself where the money is. Despite this, the associates refuse to leave the couple and say that they will continue to live with them until their comrade’s memory is revived. They compare his memory loss to that of a certain Khan’s short term amnesia in a film called Ghajini. However, with their normally functioning brains cannot recall which Khan starred in the film. Balan seems to sink into the character effortlessly, delivering Punjabi dialogues easily and she seems to have worked hard on the accent.  Namit Das and Rajesh Sharma as the two other bank robbers are also worth watching out for in this trailer. However, whether the film will be as funny as the trailer will only be revealed when the film releases on 21 June. Watch the trailer here:
