Gautham Menon's Ondraga: Madhavan has been reportedly finalised for the multi-starrer
Director Gautham Menon, who is busy with actor Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram and Dhanush’s Enai Noki Paayum Thota, has announced a multi-starrer film titled Ondraga. The director says Ondraga is a film written based on the character Karthik from the blockbuster 2010 romantic drama Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya and the series of incidents happen after he meets his three friends in a wedding.
It is now being reported that Silambarasan (Simbu) has opted out of the multi-starrer as he is not comfortable sharing screen space with other actors, so Menon has roped in Madhavan to play the title character Karthik. Madhavan has earlier played the lead role in Gautham Menon’s debut film Minnale, which was also later remade in Hindi as Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein.
Ondraga is a dream project for Gautham Menon, he previously approached actors like ‘Jayam’ Ravi, Prithviraj, Tamannaah, Anushka Shetty and Sai Dharam Tej for the film. Gautham also had plans to predominantly shoot the film in the US, one of the favorite countries of the filmmaker.
“After his debut film Jessie, Karthik has become a successful filmmaker, he scored four hits in eight years but is yet to find his soulmate. Karthik decides to attend a friend’s wedding where he meets his three friends from Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh who are not into the film business. One friend is a software professional and another one is a hotelier. The film will be an emotional ride among the four friends, who decide to spend time together on a road trip”, said Gautham Menon, in a recent interaction, about the plot of Ondraga.
Madhavan has also confirmed his presence in the film on Twitter. Tovino Thomas is said to be the Malayalam IT guy and Puneet Rajkumar will be playing the Kannada speaking friend. Gautham is in talks with actors like Vijay Devarakonda, Naga Chaitanya and Nani to play Karthik’s Telugu friend.
Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya’s Telugu version Ye Maaya Chesave starring Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu was a bigger hit than Tamil so Tollywood audiences will be able to relate to the film. Gautham Menon also remade the film in Hindi as Ekk Deewana Tha with Amy Jackson and Prateik Babbar but it was a colossal flop.
AR Rahman, who composed music for Vinnaithaandi Vauvaya, has given his nod to Ondraga, which will start rolling once Gautham completes his ongoing films. “Ondraga will be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. In Tamil, the story will be narrated from Madhavan’s point of view. Tovino and Puneet will be the main leads in Malayalam and Kannada respectively”, said a source close to the team.
Besides Ondraga, Gautham also has plans to make series of cop thrillers based on his three successful cop films including Suriya’s Kaakha Kaakha, Kamal Haasan’s Vettaiyadu Vilayadu, and Ajith’s Yennai Arindhaal.
