If you’re wondering why Sasural Simar Ka has been all over your timelines, we have an answer for you. Sasural Simar Ka has again caught the attention of its audience with a new twist — Simar, the lead protagonist has turned into a fly. Needless to say, Twitterati have not taken this well:
The best thing about Simar from Sasural Simar Ka turning into housefly is that a housefly normally lives for only a month

Fingers crossed
However, this show is not alone in creating absurd twists to garner TRPs. It has become a trend in Hindi serials to bring in paranormal or sci-fi/fantasy tracks. Here are a few shows that completely blew our minds with their twists and turns: Sasural Simar Ka [caption id=“attachment_2785450” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Sara Khan in her Naagin avatar. Image courtesy: Youtube[/caption] It is not the first time the show has veered into a paranormal track. More than a year back, Sara Khan was introduced into the long-running serial as an ‘Icchadhari Naagin’. Uttaran [caption id=“attachment_2785496” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Akash and Meethi in Uttaran. Image courtesy: Youtube[/caption] Another show on Colors, Uttaran has dabbled in black magic within its plot. Akash, the lead character, and his wife, Meethi, face troubles in their marriage when Akash’s ex-girlfriend Nandini spells black magic on Meethi with an intention to separate them. [caption id=“attachment_2785456” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Ishita and Shagun in Yeh Hain Mobbatein. Image courtesy: Youtube[/caption] Yeh Hain Mohabbatein What started as a love story between Raman, a father of a six- year old girl, and Ishita, a woman who could not conceive, soon turned into a supernatural melodrama. In November last year, the show took on a spooky twist when Ishita became possessed with Raman’s ex- wife, Shagun’s spirit after the latter committed suicide. Naagin [caption id=“attachment_2785454” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] Ichhadhari Naagin. Image courtesy: Wikipedia[/caption] Colors has more spooky stuff to offer to its audience. Naagin featured on Indian television in November last year and since then we have been introduced to everything from Icchadhari Naagins, Icchadhari Morni to even Icchadhari Nevla! Though the concept might sound ridiculous, it is said to be the most viewed show on Colors, beating even Bigg Boss. Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum [caption id=“attachment_2785500” align=“alignnone” width=“825”] The tiger look. Image courtesy: Youtube[/caption] Another show to join the paranormal bandwagon this year is & TV’s Yeh Kahaan Aa Gaye Hum. Due to a curse on the family Rahul Sabharwal (Karan Kundra), a rockstar, turns into a shape shifting tiger on certain days of the year. While this was done to make up for Karan’s absence while he was shooting for MTV Roadies, it definitely sounds like a track picked up from the movies. With such strange plots running on Indian television, we must ask ourselves if the Idiot Box is actually dumbing us down.
