Firstpost Playlist: Here's the best of 'Game of Thrones' inspired music for you

It’s been a week since the explosive season six finale of Game of Thrones sent us into a paroxysms of shock, leaving us frozen in front of our screens. And if there weren’t enough stunning visuals and plot twists to keep us hooked, there was that haunting score that (spoiler alert!) accompanied Cersei’s “triumph” — if that’s what it can be called. The ‘Light of the Seven’ is among the most beautiful pieces of music we’ve heard Ramin Djawadi compose for HBO’s fantasy series.

And in honour of that gorgeous bit of musicmaking, we’re doing a round-up of some of the Firstpost newsdesk’s favourite Game of Thrones themes — and spin-offs. From heavy metal to the soothing strains of Indian classical music, our playlist this week has ‘GOT’ what it takes. ‘Game of Thrones-Black Sabbath Mashup’ by Charlie Parra del Riego

There’s a lot to be said about Ramin Djawadi’s iconic (and dare I say it, fantasy genre-defining) Game of Thrones theme, but most of it has already been said thrice… at least. Come and see So, how do you top this epic piece of music? By mashing it up with Black Sabbath’s Children of the Grave — another equally epic and curiously apt piece of music not least because Game of Thrones is full of children and graves. Come and see It’s probably worth pointing out that this isn’t a traditional mashup — at least not in the Rock Sugar sense or even the Smack Up the Orinoco Flow sense. Come and see And accordingly, out go the violins, cellos and such-like. In come the guitars, drums and bass — special mention here for the accurately-replicated galloping Geezer Butler bass lines. Come and see If, and this is a big if, that wasn’t enough to convince you to give this track a whirl, how about the fact that the guitarist in the video is a dead ringer for Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow? Come and see — Karan Pradhan ‘Blackwater’ ending song from Game of Thrones Season 2

Probably the first episode that genuinely made me feel like Game of Thrones would become a cult classic, ‘The Battle of the Blackwater’ still is one of the most epic moments in Game of Thrones for me. This sombre credits track after the ending gave me goosebumps, so it’s my favourite GoT track. — Siddhi Desai ‘Let it Go(T) — The Game of Thrones/Frozen Mashup Crossover’ by Gail Folsom

Idina Menzel’s ‘Let It Go’ is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head for weeks to come. It was only a matter of time that the Internet would come up with a GOT version of it. This version asks relevant questions like “Winter has been coming for seasons, so why is it still green?”, “Don’t bitch about all the nudity”. It’s a fun 4-minute worth of giggles if you are as big a fan of the show as I am. However, spoiler alert: A lot of character deaths are revealed! — Ankita Maneck ‘Game of Thrones Theme’ by The Indian Jam Project

This is one of my favourites. The flute makes the GOT theme so much more soulful that it is impossible to get it out of your head. The group has also covered Rains of Castamere. While it has an Indian flavour for sure, it doesn’t sound entirely so. This is definitely worth listening to. — Kinjal Vora ‘Game of Thrones Theme — Indian Classical Version’

If GOT were Indian, the likes of Pahlaj Nihalani and the Censor Board permitting, this would be a perfect score. Dressed in the classical, flatter and the more serene (in terms of chords) this wouldn’t be out of place if positioned alongside one of India’s own epics (like the Mahabharata). Perhaps, it is then a call, for a return of the show of shows.
