After the disastrous It’s Entertainment and a cameo in Shaukeen, Akshay Kumar’s all set to put up a serious act in his next film, Airlift. The first look of the film was unveiled recently and it shows the actor in a white suit, sitting on a sofa and his hand resting around Nimrat Kaur’s waist. Kaur is wearing a satin dress in the photograph as she sits perched up next to Kumar. The actor sports a salt-and-pepper beard in the first look of the film. The shooting of Air Lift has just begun and Kaur recently tweeted out a photo from the shoot. This is the first time that Kaur has been paired with Kumar and if the first look is any indication, the two make a good pair.

Directed by Raja Krishna Menon, who unfortunately has films like Bas Yun Hi in his IMdB list, Airlift does seem to have an interesting story at its heart. The film has been set on the backdrop of the 1990’s Gulf War that follows the plight of Indian businessmen in Kuwait who suddenly find themselves on the streets, penniless, after Saddam Hussein invades the country. One such businessman is Ranjit Katyal (Kumar) who along with his family has to flee from the war-torn Kuwait. However, due to certain turn of events, Katyal also becomes the man who ends up leading not just his family but 1,70,000 other Indians to Amman, Jordon. Amman is the place from where all these people were finally airlifted. It is reportedly the biggest successful evacuation in world history. The film is reportedly being presented by T-Series although it has been produced by Crouching Tiger and Emmay Entertainment. It has been shot extensively in Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE and is scheduled for a release on 22 January, 2016.
