Hit supernatural horror franchise Final Destination is going to be rebooted by its original distributor New Line Cinema, and they have tapped horror-genre experts Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan to pen the screenplay, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The duo is known for scripting four films of the slasher franchise Saw, the spoof Piranha 3DD and Guillermo del Toro's remake of Scary Stories To Tell in the Dark.

The plot details for the reimagined movie is yet to be revealed.

All five films in the Final Destination franchise revolve around the concept of premonition and impending death. One individual among a small group of people has a sudden premonition that everyone would die in gruesome accidents, and warns them. However, despite avoiding their foretold death, each survivor is killed in terrible accidents one after the other. The films were recognised for creating the atmosphere of terror and dread, despite not showing ghosts in manner of a typical horror film.

The last Final Destination film was released in 2011. Apart from the films, the franchise has also inspired novels based on the first three films, a one-shot comic book titled Final Destination: Sacrifice and a comic series titled Final Destination: Spring Break.
