Filmmaker Karan Johar’s looking to adopt a girl child

Filmmaker Karan Johar turned 40 earlier this year on 25 May with a red carpet celebration that had the city’s haute-steppers in their best threads toasting the momentous occasion, with the host himself fitted out in an exquisite tux. Karan humourously went on to describe his fashionable party as akin to a wedding extravaganza, one that was not likely to happen anytime soon in his life. And in the likelihood that he does get married, he will have to outdo his own elaborate guest list at his 40th which rivalled most award functions’ guests! A strong family person, Karan, who lives with his mother Hiroo, is now looking to adopt a child, specifically a girl child. It is being said that the film-maker, who has more friends in the entertainment business than Mark ‘Facebook’ Zuckerberg, is feeling out of sorts, despite his active social life and supremely successful career. He is looking to make his own little family, _san_s marriage and a partner, and what better way than welcoming a child into his life. There is a lot of talk regarding this, from trips to Thailand where gender determination tourism abounds, to who will be the mother figure in the child’s life, to whether a surrogate will carry his child. When I spoke to Karan about the adoption, this is what he said. “I am not looking to adopt a child. Where did you hear that darling?” I did not expect him to admit to the same, given the adoption is still in its nascent stages. In Bollywood, Sushmita Sen has been the front-runner in adoption, having adopted two lovely girls, Renee and Alisah, that have brought her immense happiness. More recently, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao became parents to adorable little Azad Rao Khan through surrogacy in December 2011.
