Los Angeles: Oscar winner Viola Davis is working on the series adaptation of Julia Hart’s 2018 critically-acclaimed feature Fast Color. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Davis and her husband Julius Tennon’s banner JuVee Productions is backing the project for Amazon. Hart’s film, which premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in 2018 and was released theatrically in the US by Codeblack Films, follows three African-American women (Lorraine Toussaint, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Saniyya Sidney) from different generations who have superpowers. The director, who co-wrote the film with Jordan Horowitz, will also helm the pilot episode of the series. Check out Viola Davis’ post

The show will focus on Ruth (Mbatha-Raw’s character), a runaway and drug addict who returns home and rediscovers powers she thought she had lost and that her family has long kept secret. Three generations of black women reconnect, and as they learn more about those who came before, they realise one of them could save the world. Hart and Horowitz will pen the pilot and they will also executive produce along with Davis, Tennon, Andrew Wang, Mickey Liddell, and Pete Shilaimon.
