The controversy between Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Mersal is hitting new lows every day. In the midst of this, actor-director Farhan Akhtar lashed out at a BJP Spokesperson GVL Narsimha Rao after the latter passed a remark saying, "Indian actors have a very low IQ very low general knowledge."

The Lucknow Central actor angrily tweeted, "How dare you, Sir? And to all film people in his ranks.. here’s what he thinks of you. #shame," (sic)

Taking a dig at the Mersal makers, Rao said in a TV interview, "In any case, most of our film stars have very low IQ, very low general knowledge." The Twitter fight errupted after his latest interview to a news channel was tweeted with a video footage from that interview, quoting his comment.

However, in a reply to Farhan's tweet, Rao was found pacifying the situation as he wrote, "Farhan ji, Expressing an opinion is not a dare. Respect stars4work. Pl do take criticism in stride. No intolerance please!!" (sic)

Twitter went abuzz with mixed reactions.

Last week, the BJP took objection to 'incorrect references' on the Goods and Services Act (GST) in Atlee's latest directorial venture, Vijay Starrerr Mersal and asked the filmmaker to remove that particular part from the movie.

The producers of Mersal reportedly said that they will be removing the scenes which the BJP claimed to be showcasing anti- Narendra Modi hatred and spreading misinformation.
