Fallout as a title could have multiple meanings and metaphors. This is the name of the International show that dropped on Prime Video last year. It was about a post-apocalyptic world. In 2077, actor Cooper Howard and his daughter Janey were caught in the middle of a nuclear attack against Los Angeles. It was visually stunning, but also scary to witness what the characters had to go. And the showrunners Graham Wagner, Geneva Robertson-Dworet gave the show their all when they created and crafted a sweeping story that can send a chill down anyone’s spine. The show has come back for a second season. And this time, the stakes and conflicts are much deeper and more dangerous.
For anybody who is unable to refresh his memory while watching season two, the makers have kept a six minute recap of what happened in the first. The one thing that strikes you about the first episode of Fallout is how unafraid and unapologetic it is when it comes to its writing. There is a scene right at the beginning when a key character says- “He has more votes than those pan-headed politicians in Washington.” The writing reflects the fearlessness of the West. The season continues the story set in the wasteland of post-nuclear America and has introduced New Vegas, a major location from the video game Fallout: New Vegas. What immediately strikes and sucks you about _Fallout Season 2_’s first episode is the build up to the narrative that lies ahead.
The title of the show appears 11 minutes after the episode has begun. There are smoldering shots of the dessert, almost Dune-like. And the visceral energy and excitement in the action stands out too. But everything that you see in the first episode, only happens to be the tip of the iceberg. Every actor seems to be in solid form. And when the episode ends, you wait to know what is going to happen in the next.
Anything that has to do with the post-apocalyptic world can go completely haywire. The Hindi film industry has also tried to make something like that, but it immediately backfired. But when it comes to the West, the precision and patience is what makes them stand out. And _Fallout season 2_’s first episode seems to be a testament to how good the series is going to be. At least for now!
