EXCLUSIVE | John Harlan Kim on 'Cruel Intentions': 'I was offended they cast me and then...'

John Harlan Kim and Khobe Clarke are coming together for the series Cruel Intentions (The first episode premiered on Prime Video on November 21) and in an exclusive interview with Firstpost, spoke about their experience and much more.

Edited excerpts from the interview

How would you like to describe the time you spent on the sets of the show?

Khobe: The one thing we had on the sets was fun. It’s rare to have a group of people working on one thing that are so professional and get along so well, so good in their individual craft, so supportive of one another. You really had like a 100% family.

John: It was fortunate to work in an environment where the crew had worked together previously and set the table and it was kind of cool to find a dynamic in the spaces within that. I adore everybody that is a part of this production. The fun was in abundance. We had too much fun on the sets because we had break on scenes.

How much do you relate to your characters?

Khobe: There are a few things I relate to like his good attitude. Maybe his trust in people is kind of blind, his sporadic behaviour is something we have in common, and his love for people in general.

John: Absolutely nothing. He’s not a good good guy and I would like to think I am a nice guy. I was offended they cast me and then I was happy they cast me. This could be one of the most conniving characters I have ever played and I had to find a path to make myself believe in it and then ideally make the audience believe in it.

Khobe: His immense talent is what made him so believable and a terrible human being. He’s genuinely nothing like him and I was shocked to see that switch everyday, it was chameleon like.

Did you take your characters back home?

Khobe: You always have to prepare outside the sets, you have to understand the script and be loyal to the story.
