There’s something about Sanjay Mishra that you always want to root for him. He has been an integral part of Hindi cinema for more than three decades. We saw him in those Rohit Shetty blockbuster comedies but also in Rajat Kapoor’s emotionally walloping Aankhon Dekhi in 2014. Mishra is like clay who can be moulded in any shape and thrown in any genre that the landscape of content has to offer. The seasoned performer has Vadh 2 coming up next year but he wraps up 2025 with a slice-of-life comedy called Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi.
The premise is instantly juicy. It’s about a household with no women. The man of this house falls in love with a woman but the woman’s household puts forward a condition that they need a woman in the man’s household. The man now ensures he gets his father married a second time. Hence the title. And as much as Mishra nails the nuances of his character, it was heartening to see his romance with Mahima Chaudhry, who’s as refined as she was when she started.
Remember Priyadarshan’s 2001 comedy Yeh Tera Ghar Yeh Mera Ghar? A runnung gag about Paresh Rawal trying to woo Chaudhry particualrly stood out because for a refreshing change, we didn’t see a mainstream movie star trying to woo the heroine but his best friend, and that too what we call a ‘character actor.’ And the same essence is displayed by the makers in this comedy as well.
Set amidst the spiritual charm and lived-in lanes of Banaras, Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi is a heartfelt family drama that blends humour, emotions and social observation with refreshing simplicity. Director Siddhant Raj Singh crafts a story that feels rooted and familiar, yet emotionally resonant, driven by strong performances and culturally rich storytelling. Choudhary brings grace and emotional maturity to Babita Devi. Her understated performance adds credibility to the character, and her chemistry with Sanjay Mishra feels natural and refreshing. And Mishra delivers a finely layered performance, effortlessly balancing humour and vulnerability. As Durlabh Prasad, he embodies the quiet strength of a man willing to redefine his own life for the sake of his family.

View AllPallak Lalwani lends sincerity to Mehak, while Shrikant Verma adds humour and warmth in his supporting role. Pravin Singh Sisodiya convincingly portrays the rigid mindset of an image-conscious patriarch. Siddhant Raj Singh’s direction remains honest and grounded throughout. The film captures Banaras not just as a backdrop, but as a living, breathing presence—its ghats, bylanes and daily rituals adding soul to the narrative. The dialogues, infused with local dialect and cultural nuance, enhance authenticity without feeling forced.
Durlabh Prasad Ki Dusri Shadi is a touching family entertainer that celebrates relationships, emotional courage and the idea that life doesn’t end at a certain age—it simply offers new beginnings.
