Ahead of the release of Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan had said, “Vicky Kaushal is a great friend. Personally, I feel, he is one of the finest actors I have worked with. When you will see him in Dunki, you will feel a lot of love.” And after watching the film, I totally agree with SRK as Vicky outshines with his impeccable performance in a mere cameo of 15-20 minutes.
In the film , Vicky Kaushal’s character Sukhee (a local Punjabi guy from Laltu), wants to go to England on a student visa, so he joins English English-speaking class to clear his IELTS. He wants to go to the UK to bring back his love interest Jassi, who is a victim of domestic violence from her husband. In his stint, we see his struggle to learn English and mug up lines so that he can go and save his girl. Rajkumar Hirani knows how to hit the right chord when it comes to evoking emotions from the audience and he has sensibly and mindfully imbibed traits in Sukhee, which will make you feel for him and make you part of his journey, efforts and struggle. Vicky’s Sukhee is the most loved character for me. And primary reasons for this are his simply impeccable performance, where he hits the ball out of the park in every scene and undeniably his simple, believable and real characterization. Undoubtedly, Anil Grover and Vikram Kochhar’s comical punches tickle us silly with Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu leading the show with their acting mettle but at the end of the day it is Vicky Kaushal’s Sukhee, who makes a special place in your heart with his simplicity, charm and boy-next-door character. And Hirani deserves brownie points for giving us such a beautiful character.
