Disney India's broadway ‘Beauty and the Beast’ to be staged in Delhi after a successful Mumbai run

Disney India has churned out a fresh outing, with Broadway Beauty and the Beast, and it was lapped up by the Mumbai audience. It is claimed to be a houseful success and now the studio is set to offer the same experience for urban audiences in Delhi.
Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director of Disney India, claimed that it was a well-researched plan and he wanted to offer ‘live entertainment’ to well-traveled audiences.
“They [ the audience] have the inclination and the ability to spend their leisure time and money on new experiences. Today an urban Indian family's avenues for entertainment are limited to going out for a movie, a meal in a restaurant, visiting a mall and that’s about it. We believe that with live entertainment we will be able to help fill part of this void of entertainment options for families in the country,” Siddharth told Firstpost.
He started this broadway experiment with Mumbai and incidentally, this out-of-the-box entertainment caught up very well with the targeted audiences.
“Mumbai’s wildly successful run has proven that a family’s need for and willingness to spend on such experiences is definitely high,” he says. He further adds, “Having every show go house-full was a great start to this journey, and we now hope that Delhi will have a similar response.”
A typical Broadway show usually has a cast of around 30-40 people whereas Beauty and The Beast has over 100 performers in the show. Siddharth reveals that the scale of the show, in which the set surrounds the audience while they can swivel chairs, is also another first.
The next destination is Delhi. He admits that because of the venue chosen in Delhi, the show would undergo certain changes, however, it would be as fresh an experience for them too.
“The show will take place in the Thyagraj Sports Complex in Delhi and there will be small adjustments to suit the venue, but per se the show is pretty much the same as the Mumbai edition. The moment the audience steps into the venue, they will be transported to Belle’s village made up of movable 3D models placed in a 270-degree set-up. It really is a visual delight,” says Siddharth. It will have 12 shows from December 19 to December 27.
