Manorama Online reported that the court observed the investigation against Dileep was “progressing well” when it granted him bail. Previously, two of his bail applications were turned down by the magistrate’s court in Angamaly, and two petitions were later turned down by the Kerala High Court as well. Dileep had been lodged in the Aluva sub-jail ever since he was arrested on 10 July, in connection with the abduction and assault of a popular Malayalam film actress. The actress was attacked by a gang of men on 17 February, in a moving vehicle. Six people, including prime accused Pulsar Suni, were then taken into custody by the Kerala Police. During their investigations, the police claimed to have evidence linking Dileep to the assault on the actress. The police alleged that Dileep had masterminded the attack on the actress. On 19 September, Dileep had filed this fifth bail plea before the Kerala High Court. On being released from jail, huge crowds of the actor’s fans gathered to greet him. They indicated their support for the troubled actor by shouting slogans, holding up banners and distributing sweets.
