1993’s Darr, which marks the first collaboration between megastar Shah Rukh Khan and legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, is among the ‘cult classics’ of Bollywood. The musical blockbuster features SRK as an obsessive one-sided lover of Kiran (Juhi Chawla), who goes to another level, when she gets engaged to Sunil (Sunny Deol). While the adorable, cute and innocent character of Juhi Chawla has made an indelible mark among the audience, the actress was not the first choice for Darr . Yes, in a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, famous costume designer Neeta Lulla shared and interesting anecdote and revealed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was the first choice for the movie.
“Yashji and I discussed and we said she is beautiful. But he said maybe it won’t work out because she is going for Miss World pageant and she went away,” said Lulla. Eventually, Ash won the Miss World title for India in 1994 and made her acting debut in Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar in 1997. After Aishwarya, many actresses were in consideration including Raveena Tandon. The Karmma Calling star told ANI in 2023, “Darr had come to me first, though it was not vulgar, but earlier there were some scenes in Darr, I was not comfortable with.” As per reports, Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, and Divya Bharti were also considered to play the leading lady in Darr.
