Dhanush confirms VIP is four-part franchise; Kajol to be part of VIP 3

Chennai: Actor-filmmaker Dhanush, who awaits the release of upcoming Tamil action-comedy VIP 2, directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, says the franchise will continue with two more parts already planned. [caption id=“attachment_3188200” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Dhanush and Kajol in VIP 2[/caption] VIP 2, a sequel to 2014 Tamil blockbuster VIP, is slated for release on 28 July. “It took me three years to write the sequel to VIP, and the process was challenging. It was while shooting for Kodi; I struck upon an idea to make VIP 2. The franchise will continue. There will be part 3 and 4,” Dhanush told IANS. VIP 2 marks the return of Kajol to Kollywood after two decades. In the film, she plays a suave and conniving businesswoman. On working with her, Dhanush said, “It was fascinating to work with her. When she did her last film (Minsara Kanavu) in Tamil, I was in tenth class. We feel proud she chose to make her comeback with our film.” He also confirmed Kajol will be part of VIP 3. Dhanush made his directorial debut with Pa Paandi this year. Overwhelmed with the success of the film, he said, “There will be a sequel to Pa Paandi. It’s too early to talk about the project but it will be another exciting project.” Apart from VIP 2, Dhanush has superstar Rajinikanth’s Tamil gangster drama Kaala in his kitty. The Ranjhanaa actor is bankrolling the project, in which Rajinikanth plays a slum lord-turned-gangster. Asked if he’s playing a cameo in Kaala, according to the rumours, Dhanush said, “I’m waiting for an opportunity to work with Rajini sir. I’m awaiting a call from Ranjith for Kaala.” Kaala, which also stars Nana Patekar, Huma Qureshi, Pankaj Tripathi and Samuthirakani, is being directed by Pa Ranjith.
