The cast and crew of Dedh Ishqiya, in a new video released by the makers of the film, has undertaken the confounding task of analysing the question that why the sequel of Ishqiya has been named — ‘Dedh’ Ishqiya. [caption id=“attachment_1271623” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] A screengrab from the film.[/caption] Dedh in English means one and a half. So, the first question that might cross audience’s minds is if the sequel of Ishqiya is called Dedh Ishqiya does it mean it is just halfway through being a film? While you wonder how that could possibly work out for its box office fortunes, the producer Ketan Maru comes to the film’s rescue. Maru in fact has a completely different theory altogether. According to him, the film is Dedh Ishqiya because all the characters in the film are Dedh Shane (A dedh shana is someone who tries to act smart). Huma Qureshi tends to agree with that logic. One of the crew member corroborates Maru’s theory, says that since all the characters are busy messing with their own happiness (because of their over smartness) the film is called Dedh Ishqiya. Madhuri Dixit, however, has a different explanation. The actress who is making her comeback with this film says Dedh has been used as a prefix because otherwise Dhai would have been used (two and half) and that is very common. To drive her point home, she cites the phrase — Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. Another logical explanation that the actress gives for calling the film Dedh Ishqiya is because the film has been shot in one and a half shift. Another unit member, however, confesses what seems like the most genuine explanation for the film’s title. He says, “Thoda different hai. Sab do rakte hai, humne dedh rakkha hai.” Nasseruddin Shah however isn’t interested in propounding theories and says,“It is just a catchy phrase that Abhishek thought of.” Abhishek Chaubey on the other hand has a very interesting theory to explain the name of the film. “Ishqiya was a large 60 ml drink, but Dedh Ishqiya is a patiala, so it is ‘Dedh’ Ishqiya.” says the director of the film.
