Dangal becomes first Indian movie to cross Rs 2000 cr mark at global box-office

It is now a universal fact that Aamir Khan’s 2016 release Dangal has scaled heights that no other Indian movie has ever achieved. Reports of its performance, box-office figures have been doing rounds all across the media for quite some time now. Image via Facebook[/caption] No doubt, it has been raking in the moolahs globally; especially after its immense popularity in the Chinese market, the figures have become talk of the town. According to a report by Forbes, Dangal has collected more than Rs 2000 crore so far, which is an unprecedented achievement in Indian cinema. The magazine’s report furthers that the other milestones in Dangal’s journey include being the  fifth highest-grossing non-English film in history, the highest-grossing live actions sports movie of 2017, and the biggest non-Hollywood import ever released in China. Chinese success added a great deal of weightage to the film’s figures. Aamir's popularity in the land of the dragon (he’s popularly known as Uncle Khan in China post his 3 Idiots release in China) spearheaded the success of the film there. All his past films have done significantly well in the Chinese market. But more than the astonishing commercial success, it is the manner in which Dangal has struck an emotional chord with the Chinese audiences. Dangal, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, released on 23 December and is a biopic on the life of Indian wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters Geeta and Babita, who he trains to be world-class wrestlers. It starred Aamir Khan alongwith Sakhsi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sana Malhotra, Zaira Wasim, Suhani Bhatnagar and Aparshakti Khurana.
