Dam 999 on Oscar's Best Picture list

Dam 999, released at the inopportune time when the Kerala and Tamil Nadu governments were bickering over the Mullaperiyar dam, is on the Oscar’s Best Picture list. The Sohan Roy film is one among 264 others, NDTV reported. The film based on the dystopian scenatrio about waters from a collapsed dam sweeping away thousands, released in 550 theares across India on 25 November. The Tamil Nadu government alleged that the script referred to the Mullaperiyar dam, that has had Kerala and Tamil Nadu at odds for a while now. In Tamil Nadu, a two-week ban was imposed on the film starting 8 December and was subsequently extended to six months to maintain law and order.
