Critics are often accused of hating blockbusters potboilers and being clueless about what really works for the average movie-watcher. While some filmmakers dismiss these critics as elitist , audiences can be far more judgmental.
It only takes a glance at the comments’ section of any film review to know that there are many angrily dismissing the critics with everything from, “You are hater, that’s why you are saying such things” or “Why are interns running the site?” and “paid media”. (It is true, though, critics are paid – by the publications that employ them.)
So, in a recent edition of Film Stripped, Entertainment Editor of CNN IBN, Rajeev Masand chats with Entertainment Editor of Firstpost, Deepanjana Pal and journalist Mihir Fadnavis and get their side of the story.
In a round table discussion they talk about why critics dislike commercial films, what are the good masala films that they would recommend and give their take on films like Dabangg, Humshakals, Entertainment and Singham 2. Watch the video here:
Film Stripped is part of an ongoing series, in which Pal, Masand and Fadnavis will discuss different topics related to films from both Bollywood and elsewhere.
