Christopher Nolan's India visit: From public events to meet-and-greet with film personalities, all you need to know

Christopher Nolan, one of the most accomplished filmmakers of our times, will be visiting India. It had earlier been reported that Nolan — who has made critically and commercially successful movies like Memento, The Prestige, The Batman Trilogy starring Christian Bale, Inception, Interstellar and Dunkirk — will be visiting India soon, according to an exclusive report by Bombay Times. The master director will be accompanied by his wife and film producer Emma Thomas. Nolan will arrive in Mumbai on 29 March and will stay in the city till 1 April. Bombay Times also reports that the director will be attending a private dinner on 30 March which will be hosted in his honour. Nolan, who shot a key scene in The Dark Knight Rises in the city of Jodhpur, will then leave for an undisclosed location, ’to explore India’. Nolan, along with visual artist Tacita Dean and founder of Film Heritage Foundation Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, will present Reframing the Future of Film —a global initiative that supports the cause of film preservation, reports Bombay Times. Christopher Nolan, along with accomplished directors like Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson, is one of the most prominent proponents of the traditional 70mm film. Bombay Times also reported that many eminent personalities from the Indian film industry will be meeting Nolan and Dean on 31 March. Some of these names include Anurag Kashyap, Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, Farhan Akhtar, Shyam Benegal and Santosh Sivan. They will have a two-hour-long discussion with the director of Dunkirk. Shah Rukh Khan is also expected to be a part of the gathering. Nolan’s team wrote to Dungarpur about their desire to support his cause of preserving film in the digital era. Bombay Times quoted Nolan as saying, “India has such wonderful cinema and rich history of art that everything needs to be done not only to promote its proper preservation for future generations, but also to reintroduce the film medium to younger artistes and filmmakers in the country.” There will also be a special 70mm IMAX film screening in Mumbai of the Oscar winning movie Dunkirk. Arrangements are being made to refit 70mm projectors and the film’s print is being shipped to Mumbai from US especially for this screening.
